Medical care benefits provided by the states can cover up to 100% the medical care in family medical centers, family clinics and fully-fledged public hospitals.
What Countries Have Medical Care for All?
The amount of medical care benefits that can be provided by the state, up to 100%, which we mentioned above, varies from country to country. Unfortunately, in some countries, almost no medical care benefits are provided, while in some countries some, and in others, all of them can be provided. In order to benefit from these benefits, individuals must be registered with the social security system, that is, they must have a social security registration number.
Medical Care in Turkey
Compared to other countries, Turkey has one of the best healthcare systems in terms of the medical care benefits it provides for the general public.
If you live in Turkey with a work permit or citizenship, the social security institution (SGK) provides health insurance to cover all your health expenses. To do this, you must register with the social security institution and obtain a social security registration number. SGK covers one hundred percent of the cost of the medical care you receive in state hospitals. Variable rates of benefits are offered for medical care taken in private medical professionals and medical facilities. Health care coverage for medicines and treatment methods expenses is provided by SGK at a rate of 80%.
In addition, your first-degree relatives such as your spouse and children can also benefit from these medical care benefits provided by the state. The cost of health insurance provided by the state may vary from year to year.
Private Medical Care Services
We mentioned that the healthcare system consists of two subsystems. The first is the state-provided medical care services that we have explained in detail.
The second is the medical care services that you can obtain by getting private health insurance.
When you get private health insurance, you can get medical care services from a private medical care center, health care center or medical care clinic by paying a certain percentage of the total treatment amount, in case you experience any health problems.
Medical Insurance in Turkey

Health insurance for foreigners in Turkey is usually provided for a period of one year and can be extended for 2 more years. Every foreign individual aged 18-65 who wants to obtain a citizenship or residency permit in Turkey has to do medical insurance. Kids under 18 and people older than 65 years do not need to have health insurance in Turkey.
Private health insurance in Turkey covers 40-60% of outpatient treatment and 40-100% of inpatient treatment in clinics, which have such an agreement with the insurance company. Dental services usually are not covered by the medical insurance of local insurance companies.
The main purpose of medical insurance is to cover emergency medical care. The cost of such insurance cannot be specified in a certain way. This cost can change in time. So, it wouldn’t be right to talk about a certain amount of cost. Because, the cost of health expenditures is constantly changing.
